About Janna

Janna Smart is Claims Manager at Royal Claims Services Ltd. She leads, trains and supervises the firm’s claims examiners and support staff, oversees complex property, liability and commercial trucking claims, and is responsible for file review, settlement approval and regulatory compliance across the book. Her standard is simple: every file handled as if a senior adjuster were going to read it, because one is.

Janna joined Royal Claims in 2024 after six years building and managing a branch for ClaimsPro, where she oversaw multi-line complex files and catastrophe response while leading a team of adjusters. Before that she held a regional management role at AIA, ran her own independent adjusting firm, and spent five years as a Senior Adjuster on large loss property, liability, products liability, CGL, E&O and casualty claims. Her career began in 1996 on the agency and direct-writer side, followed by auto, accident benefits and bodily injury work, which still informs how she thinks about the people on the other end of a claim.

Janna holds the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) designations and has completed NFPA 921 Fire and Explosion Investigations training. Her commentary on wildfire trends appeared in Canadian Underwriter in fall 2023.
